How to follow men’s college gymnastics

Picture - Dall-E3 + my own picture of a meet. I didn’t use the AI generated TV screen, because it had the still rings on the ground and athletes with 4 legs and no head.

Following men’s intercollegiate gymnastics can be a bit of a challenge. Here’s how I do it.

My launching pad is Roadtonationals. It’s a one-stop-shop for meet schedules (Including GymACT), meet results (including detailed pdfs), videos of completed meets, links to official team sites and score charts.

Follow your favorite school (or follow all of them!) on social media. It’s the best way to keep up with real-time updates, including time and date changes for meets that sometimes aren’t picked up by Roadtonationals. For some meets, social media is the only source of live viewing.

The sites below offer detailed master schedules, including links to live scoring and video, as well as meet previews, and meet reports. They sometimes offer viewing information not found on the official websites. I like to read from multiple sources, as each writer offers a unique perspective:

To keep up on the latest rules, I check out The National Gymnastics Judges Association. This site has a judges’ challenge which links to videos and routine D and E breakdowns, so you can practice judge if you feel like a brain workout, or at least get a feel for how scoring works. The 2023 challenge is finished and you can check it out here.

The best way to watch the men’s NCAA gymnastics Championships is IN PERSON. I’ve been to multiple Worlds (including ones with Kohei Uchimura), but for me, the NCAA Championships is more fun. If I had to choose between the Olympics and the men’s NCAA Championship, I’d choose the NCAA. Every time. The atmosphere is electric, with school spirit, camaraderie between gymnasts from different teams, and the chance to interact with other fans, parents, and athletes who share a passion for men’s NCAA gymnastics. And World class gymnastics - see athletes who will likely compete at the Olympics (both for the U.S.A. and other nations).

GymACT Nationals is held in conjunction with USAG Developmental Nationals. The date for 2024 is May 11th. I’ve never been to that event, but plan to attend this year.

All the links I mentioned (and more) can be found in the links section of this website.
