NCAA Snapshot Week 9

The Michigan Rings of Fire - Dall E 3

In Brief

Michigan defeated #1 ranked Oklahoma 416.3 to 409.55. Michigan was ready for Oklahoma, putting in Fred Richard and Paul Juda. The teams finished with almost identical total difficulty (Michigan’s 157 to Oklahoma’s 156.9). Oklahoma had trouble on pommel horse (normally a strong event for them), and as did Nebraska before them, came to grief on the Michigan rings tower, but were unable to make up the difference.

Nebraska was able to push Stanford to within 2.7 points at California, despite Stanford having the aid of stars Asher Hong, Khoi Young, and Colt Walker. Stanford ended with 410.855 to Nebraska’s 408.15, despite having a 7.7 advantage in difficulty (163.1 D score for Stanford, 155.4 D score for Nebraska).

Stanford hasn’t broken 416 this year, but note that at the Team USA versus Stanford meet, Team USA scored 415.65 with 4 out of 5 members being current Stanford athletes.

Greenville continues to score over 390, solidifying their chances for a podium spot at the ECAC Championships. It will be good for the NCAA men’s gymnastics community for a new team to show they can make the podium in only their second year of competition.
